Firefly

My resistance to Joss Whedon has finally wavered. Due to the insistence of Geoff Klock, I neflixed the fist disk of the series and watched it over the weekend. It's pretty frigg'n unbelievable. With the exception of the awful opening credit sequence, each story is filled with unanticipated plot twists, dynamic character developments, surprisingly good effects, and the kind of genre-bending style that any child of 80s media is sure to appreciate. I'm anxiously awaiting the next four episodes, but since I'm watching the show with the same rhythm that I would read a comic book series, the tension of having to wait is an enjoyable experience in and of itself. I'm a Whedon fan. I knew it would happen sooner or later. Buffy still seems daunting to me, but sooner or later I'm sure I'll get on that train too.

Rick and Brad finish Jared Scharff

I just came back from the final hours of editing with Rick Darge on Jared Scharff's 'Exceptional.'I couldn't be happier. It's an experiment in beauty and I'm really proud of it. Driving around collecting all that footage with the production team of Marc, Jenna, and Rick was some of the most fun I've ever had making a movie. We'll plan a party soon to celebrate and let everyone know when it goes up on the web.

New Laurels

I've just added our festival laurels to the front page of the site. They look pretty. Especially the blue star. And now begins the big crunch to finish the screenplay. There is already a draft of the feature floating out there in the world, but for the past few months, I've been working on the much leaner, much cleaner, much darker second draft. This one is far more Alan Moore, in which the characters live in a world of fantasy, but feel their predicaments in a very real, emotional way.
The drawing above is from the same pad as the one bellow. I may switch it up and scan images from other pads soon, since the styles vary wildly depending on the time and place of the sketching.

Happy New Year!

Nine days later! I hope everyone had fun this holiday - because 2006 has already started with a bang. We're re-launching the Clearwater St. website to accomidate all of the new material we have to exhibit. I made my producing debut on a music video for Hip-Hop super-star God-dess, directed by my collegue and friend Dave O'Brien (whose birthday was this week. Happy Birthday Dave!) - It's poised to air on Logo television soon. I'll keep you posted. We'll also be launching new videos for Jared Scharff, Honor Society, and Movement! Also, you can now check out my credits on music video database.
The drawing above is called 'Fwap' - I drew about a year ago while TAing a class for Phil Ramuno at USC.
